I recently published an article with several former colleagues (Dr. Talia Wigod, Joy Shen, Dr. Alec Miller, and Dr. Lata McGinn) from Cognitive & Behavioral Consultants on parents’ cited reasons for stopping treatment of Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT). We also discussed strategies and adaptations that could promote engagement and completion of treatment. Parenting, PCIT, and keeping families in treatment in order to help them improve their lives are all issues near and dear to my heart. One of my favorite findings was that many families experienced such significant improvements in their child's behaviors that they no longer felt as though they needed therapy.
